The easiest way to snap yourself into action is by making a choice. Choice is the father of action and all action flows from decisions. The trial is that we have been using the word decision so freely that it lost much of it's true meaning. When you make a actual decision, a true pledge, you cut off all the possibilities other than that which you are completely committed to. Like any other skill you need to get better at making decisions by making more of them and as you utilize this ability you will get better at overcoming procrastination until you sooner or later develop the custom of being decisive.

A truly dedicated decision will change your "shoulds" into "musts." In fact, this significant characteristic separates procrastinators from action minded and decisive achievers. We all get what we need to have and we just get our "shoulds" when it is expedient. The most regular reason why individuals procrastinate is that they simply don't "feel" like doing it. When you don't feel like doing it, it basically means that you relate more pain to taking action than to avoiding it. As human beings we are to a sizeable level controlled by our emotions and way of thinking. You will do more or less anything to avoid painful emotions and gain enjoyable emotions. Your viewpoint about what will lead to pain or pleasure serves as a reference that will direct you in making decisions. Beliefs are considered as a short cut for your mind to make decisions rapidly. Even if you haven't got precise experiences your mind will make it up based on your beliefs. We all have a built in need for assurance and our beliefs give us that feeling of confidence. The most potent beliefs of all are the beliefs you have about yourself and your individual abilities and capabilities. If you believe that you are a procrastinator and that you can never follow through and create results, then no matter what system or strategy you learn or employ, you will always be a procrastinator. Your beliefs about yourself creates your identity and one of the strongest wants within your character is for your actions to be consistent with your identity. Whatever identity you possess will create your reality.

Your thinking are mostly formed mechanically by life experiences and the meaning you take from it. You are the master of your own meaning and the way you convey your life experiences to yourself will decide what things stand for to you. The way you talk and commune with yourself is a form of hypnosis and most people give themselves a real difficult time when they mess up. They indulge in negative self talk. That installs disempowering beliefs about their abilities and capabilities. Overcoming procrastination requires of you to obtain control of your internal communication. What you say to yourself about yourself and your life will ultimately determine what actions you take.

Individuals who are joyful, successful and fulfilled are not fortunate or born underneath the correct stars, but they are individuals that have learned how to overcome procrastination and take action even when they don't feel like it. When you don't feel like doing it you are simply not in a imaginative emotional shape. The quickest way to modify this is to alter your psychological focus; alter your concentration and that which you are paying attention to. If you focus on the painful and unpleasant aspects of any task you will in the end start to procrastinate, even if you are unbelievably disciplined. Your focus is your experience of life. Learning to organize and direct your focus on the pleasing aspects of taking action will empower you to overcome procrastination. Build up the routine of taking the long view; of focusing on the outcome and not the process and watch yourself move past procrastination.
